Transfer with repercussions: FIFA demands clarification of Ancelotti deal

Because an unaccredited advisor is said to have received €1.2 million, Carlo Ancelotti’s transfer to the Brazilian Football Confederation has repercussions. FIFA is demanding clarification.

Carlo Ancelotti’s transfer to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has been a long time coming. But even though the deal is now finalized and the Italian has already announced his first squad as national coach of the record world champions, the transfer has repercussions.

FIFA has now asked the CBF to clarify the involvement of an unaccredited advisor. Specifically, it concerns the role of Diego Fernandes, who, according to several media reports, is listed as an advisor in the official contract between Ancelotti and the CBF without a valid FIFA license.

The entrepreneur is said to have received a commission equivalent to 1.2 million euros for his work. This could constitute a possible violation of international transfer rules, which allow such tasks and remuneration only for accredited advisors. According to the news portal UOL, Fernandes’ lawyers stated that the commission would only be claimed after registration.

What role does the former president play?

According to the Brazilian newspaper O Globo, citing a statement from the association, the relevant contract terms were negotiated under “confidentiality clauses.” These are said to originate from the former CBF leadership. The current association management now wants to evaluate the case internally. There has also been a recent change here: doctor Samir Xaud succeeded Ednaldo Rodrigues as president, who was removed from office by a court but is said to have coordinated contact with Ancelotti in Madrid.

FIFA requested comprehensive documentation from the Brazilian association, including the contract with Fernandes and relevant communication records.

Ancelotti officially took over as coach of the Selecao on Monday. The 65-year-old will make his debut on the Brazilian bench in the World Cup qualifier against Ecuador on June 5.
