Tough stand for Adamyan

With a starting appearance for his country in the home game against Germany, the attacker has been collecting missed playing time at TSG of late.

Sidelined by his idol Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Sargis Adamyan started for his home country Armenia against Germany on Sunday evening. Not in his usual role as a winger, but in a 5-4-1 as a spearhead, first starter and counterattacker. It was Adamyan who created Armenia’s first chance, when the Hoffenheim player elegantly crossed to Spertsyan, who, however, shot over the goal (27th). Adamyan also had some decent counter-attacks and attempts, but like all his colleagues he had a hard time against the superior German team in the 1:4. After 69 minutes, it was over.

2019 Adamyan was still matchwinner in Munich

Finally, the opportunity to gain match practice again, which the dribbling attacker was not granted so often in Hoffenheim. He is also having a hard time at TSG at the moment. The last time he played in the league was on the ninth matchday, when Adamyan was allowed to play a few minutes in the final phase of the 0:4 loss to FC Bayern. At the place where the 28-year-old had his greatest performance so far two years earlier. At that time, Adamyan scored two goals in Munich and was the match-winner in TSG’s 2-1 triumph in Munich.

However, the attacker, who was brought from second-division club Regensburg in 2019 for just 1.5 million euros, was never able to really assert himself and establish himself in Hoffenheim. Time and again, injuries or a Corona illness set him back. At least in the cup, in the 5:1 against Kiel, Adamyan was allowed to play in the final quarter of an hour.

The striker was not even in the squad recently

However, in the two most recent league appearances of TSG against Hertha BSC (2:0) and in Bochum (0:2) Adamyan did not even make it into the matchday squad of coach Sebastian Hoeneß. The Armenian, who was born in Erewan, is currently having a difficult time at Hoffenheim. In view of the fierce competition on the offensive positions, Hoeneß seems to prefer other candidates. For example, Jacob Bruun Larsen, who, like Adamyan, prefers to play on the left side of the pitch. Christoph Baumgartner, Ihlas Bebou, the young Georginio Rutter and recently also Robert Skov have better cards at the moment, Andrej Kramaric is set anyway.

Tough times for Adamyan, whose contract in Hoffenheim, which was extended in November 2020, still runs until 2023. Should nothing change before the next transfer period, Adamyan should certainly also be classified as a potential candidate for the squad rejuvenation already envisaged in the summer.
