“Tireless Drive for Success”: Glasner Chooses Forest

Oliver Glasner has found his new club: Surprisingly, the former Bundesliga coach is not heading to a top international club, but rather to league rival Nottingham Forest.

Back in January, former Bundesliga coach Oliver Glasner announced his departure from Crystal Palace. Since then, the Austrian has been linked to a number of clubs—most notably AC Milan. But his actual new employer was likely the last thing anyone expected: On Monday morning, Premier League rival Nottingham Forest—which had been struggling to avoid relegation just last season—announced the signing of the 51-year-old.

“In our discussions with Oliver, it became clear that we share the same vision, the same ambition, and the same tireless drive for success,” club owner Evangelos Marinakis is quoted as saying following the appointment. “Throughout his entire career, he has proven time and again that he can build outstanding teams and prevail against the toughest competition.”

High turnover of coaches at Forest

In the Midlands, the former coach of VfL Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt is taking over for Vitor Pereira, who was only appointed in February. Pereira himself recently confirmed in a statement that he was stepping down as coach of the Tricky Trees. It was a decision by the club that came “completely out of the blue and without any warning,” as Pereira—who also once coached 1860 Munich—stated publicly. As recently as May, there were reports of plans to extend the partnership between the two parties for the long term.

Amid this recent turmoil under the leadership of the sometimes impulsive Greek owner Marinakis, Glasner is now seeking his next challenge. Following Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche, and Pereira, the Salzburg native will be the fifth coach in twelve months—and is expected to restore calm to the Tricky Trees.

During his nearly two and a half years at Crystal Palace, the 51-year-old had previously led the club to the first titles in its history. In the 2024–25 season, the Eagles won the FA Cup under the Austrian, before celebrating the Conference League title and the English Super Cup last season. Glasner also won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt—successes that Nottingham is also hoping to achieve. The two-time European Cup winner’s last title dates back to 1990 (League Cup).
