How Timo Glock sees his future in the DTM in light of the difficult circumstances and what the McLaren team Dörr Motorsport is planning for 2026
Will Timo Glock remain with the McLaren team Dörr Motorsport in the DTM in 2026? Before his comeback season, the former Formula 1 driver said that the project was a long-term one and that he wanted to stay for at least “two years,” as long as he wasn’t “at loggerheads with the team after three months.” But is this plan still in place after a difficult first half of the season?
“Yes,” he said. “I’m more motivated than ever to turn this around so that it works in the end.” Glock also believes that the team, which secured its first pole position at the Nürburgring with youngster Ben Dörr, is on the right track regardless of his personal situation.
“The fact is that we’ve made a leap forward,” he argued. “There was no McLaren pole, no McLaren one-two in free practice last year. It was rare for a McLaren to perform like that, but we’re managing it at the moment.” This step “can’t be dismissed. And now we have to take the next step and have two consistent cars and make it happen.”
“We can’t be where we want to be yet”
The current difficulties faced by much more experienced teams also reinforce Glock’s view: “This is our second year, and even an experienced team like Abt with last year’s champion Bortolotti is struggling with its problems right now. That shows how competitive this championship is and what matters.”
However, the current results – two tenth places in Lausitz and at the Nürburgring are the highlights of Glock’s comeback season so far – are not the main focus for him due to the long-term nature of the project.
“For me, it’s not about whether I’m tenth, eighth, thirteenth or fifth right now, but what matters to me is that we’re not yet where we need to be,” he says. He adds: “We can’t be where we want to be yet.”
Technical director Dörr on Glock: “The goal is to continue working with him.”
That’s why it’s his “job to use my experience to sort these things out so that we can establish a basis from which we can compete for podium places, championships or whatever. That’s the goal.”
But does the Frankfurt team also want to continue working with Glock next season? “We have been open with him from the start,” replies technical director Robin Dörr. “He knows that the whole project is set for three years. And the goal is definitely to continue working with him,” he states firmly.
Glock is also much closer to the top than the team was last year, according to Dörr. This shows “that Timo can turn the wheel. And his comments help us and are one of the reasons for the successes we have already achieved. He helps us immensely with his experience to move forward.”
