After being eliminated twice in the first round of the playoffs, the Orlando Magic are aiming higher for the coming season. The Wagner brothers are even talking about their first shot at the title.
After the European Championships comes the new NBA season – and the Wagner brothers Franz and Moritz want to compete for the title with Orlando Magic. “We have high hopes and expectations for this season,” said newly crowned European basketball champion Franz Wagner during Orlando’s Media Day: “It’s time to break new ground. Not just for this group, but for the entire franchise.“
In the past two seasons, the team from the US state of Florida was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Orlando now wants to stop this trend this season – and take several steps forward.
”It’s by far the most talented team we’ve ever had here. The pressure is high, the time has come,“ said Moritz Wagner, who did not give a possible date for his return after tearing his cruciate ligament last December: ”We want to win the championship, that’s what we’re training for.“ To do that, however, the team will have to ”grow together,” explained the older Wagner brother.
In the summer, the Magic already made a small splash with the trade of Desmond Bane. The shooting guard is expected to provide Orlando with much-needed spacing, addressing the team’s biggest area of concern: the three-point shot.
