Theo follows Inzaghi’s call: Theo joins Al-Hilal

What had been rumored for several weeks is now official: Theo is leaving Europe for the first time and joining Al-Hilal.

After one season each at Deportivo Alaves (2016/17), Real Madrid (2017/18) and Real Sociedad (2018/19), Theo found a long-term home in Milan for the first time in his professional career. But after six years, his chapter in the Italian fashion city is coming to an end: he is moving from Milan to Al-Hilal. For the French international (38 caps), who has signed a contract until 2028, this is his first move outside Europe.

Initially, Theo wanted to leave the Rossoneri for Atletico Madrid. But after negotiations broke down, he was persuaded by none other than Simone Inzaghi, who was coach of Inter for many years (from 2021 to 2025) and has been coach of Al-Hilal for a month. The Saudi Arabian double winners are reportedly paying €25 million to Milan for the left-back. Theo’s annual salary is not significantly lower than his transfer fee: He is set to earn €20 million per year in the kingdom.

He will join Milinkovic-Savic and Koulibaly, among others

The 27-year-old played a total of 243 games for Milan, scoring 32 goals. In addition, the 38-time French international celebrated the Scudetto with the Lombards in 2022 and the Italian Super Cup in the past season. He earned the status of a key player. This was reflected, among other things, in his role as vice-captain.

In Riyadh, he will play alongside Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (Lazio Rome from 2015 to 2023) and Kalidou Koulibaly (SSC Napoli from 2014 to 2022), both of whom he knows from Serie A encounters.
