And therefore not a “joker,” as German national coach Julian Nagelsmann likes to call the players who work up and down the sidelines. Of course, Liverpool FC’s new record signing, who came from Leverkusen for a base fee of €125 million, is not a joker who comes off the bench; he is far too good and too valuable for that. And yet he was a joker in his official debut in the Reds’ jersey in Saturday’s 2-4 defeat to Milan in Hong Kong. A settled one.
