The tireless Modric extends his contract in Madrid

Luka Modric (36) will continue to play for Real Madrid in the late autumn of his career. Also in view of the World Cup, the Croatian has signed a new contract with the royals.

If he has already qualified with Croatia for the 2022 Winter World Cup in Qatar, Luka Modric also wants to play it in full possession of his abilities. And because the tournament takes place during the 2022/23 season, a step back to a smaller club or even the end of his career was out of the question for the winger.

From supplementary player to world footballer

So the 36-year-old has signed a new contract with his long-time employers Real Madrid, the usual one-year extension (until 2023) for veterans at the royals. Although the creative player has now lost some of his dynamism and can no longer play every game over 90 minutes, he continued to prove himself as an important difference-maker in the successful past season – alongside his eternal companions Casemiro and Toni Kroos.

Modric moved to Real from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 where, after teething troubles, he has gone on to win five Champions League titles and become a world footballer in 2018. As well as becoming a club legend.
