The third spring of a legend

Wrestling veteran Christian Cage crowns his comeback at AEW with a title win. Speculation continues about a reunion with Edge

The third spring of a wrestling legend reaches the next level!

Christian Cage, former World Champion with WWE and former rival TNA / Impact Wrestling now officially holds a title created by AEW for the first time.

The Canadian – who barely shows the 50 years he’ll be turning in November – crowned himself the league’s TNT Champion on Saturday’s Collision show, which he had previously billed himself as.

Christian Cage dethrones own ally at AEW Collison

Cage won a three-way battle with the previous champion, his masked enforcer Luchasaurus, and mutual rival Darby Allin.

Luchasaurus had won the title earlier in the summer with Cage’s help from Wardlow, since then AEW told a story based on the classic motif of Dr. Frankenstein and his monster.

Cage acted as the real champion from the start, flaunting the title belt and letting Luchasaurus, reminiscent of Cage’s former colleagues Kane and Abyss in his monster mystique, do the work.

Now Cage ended the charade by taking the opportunity to pin Luchasaurus, who had been weakened by an action by Allin.

More clearly than before, Luchasaurus signalled with his body language that the thought of being taken advantage of was welling up inside him. Still, though, he lifted Cage onto his shoulders and let him celebrate.

Cage – much like ex-partner Edge returned from an injury retirement two years ago – signed a contract with AEW in 2021, which he recently extended.

The reinvigoration of Cage – who has reinvented himself at AEW as a sleazy manipulator in a turtleneck – coincides with rumours that Edge could also be moving to AEW.

The Rated-R Superstar has so far not renewed his WWE contract, which expires at the end of September.

Bryan Danielson wins another battle against Ricky Starks

The second main event match at Collison featured a bloody, win-only “Texas Death Match” between Bryan Danielson – WWE’s former Daniel Bryan – and the up-and-coming Ricky Starks.

Once again, Danielson was victorious, further cementing the latter’s status: AEW boss Tony Khan has made it relatively clear that Danielson is set to take the central spot at Collision from CM Punk, who was fired after another beating scandal.
