The shake-up continues: Thomas leaves ALBA and moves to Spain

After two years with ALBA, Matt Thomas is leaving the capital club when his contract expires. The US guard is joining Fundacion CB Granada in the Spanish ACB.

For Berlin, his departure is the latest personnel decision in a summer of upheaval, with another key player from last season leaving the club. In a total of 117 competitive games, Thomas scored 301 three-pointers at an impressive rate of 45 percent. His performance against Bonn in April, when he scored nine three-pointers, will be particularly remembered.

Sports director Himar Ojeda bid farewell to Thomas with words of praise: “It has been a pleasure to have Matt with us in Berlin for the past two years. With his quality, work ethic and professionalism, he has enriched our team and we wish him all the best for his future.”

“Will continue to follow Alba”: Thomas thanks Berlin

Thomas himself also looked back with gratitude: “I am grateful to have been part of the ALBA family for the past two years and for all the memories I have collected during my time in Berlin, both on and off the court. […] I would also like to thank the ALBA fans for their unconditional support. I wish you all the best for the future and will continue to follow ALBA from afar.”

Before his time in Berlin, Thomas played in the NBA for the Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz, and Chicago Bulls. He played for Iowa State during his college years.
