The different Smith brothers sign with Wormatia Worms

Oberliga leaders Wormatia Worms have strengthened with a pair of brothers from Verbandsligisten SV Morlautern. In terms of footballing characteristics, Joshua and Justin Smith could hardly be more different.

Joshua and Justin Smith will wear the jersey of Wormatia Worms with immediate effect. The pair of brothers join from Verbandsligisten SV Morlautern and have signed contracts until 2024 after successful trial training at Alzeyer Straße.

“We are pleased that Morlautern has made it possible for the boys to take the next step with us,” said sporting director Norbert Hess, thanking those responsible for the Verbandsliga 1 leaders. Hess added about the Smith brothers: “They fit our requirements profile well: young, regional, very ambitious. They convinced the coach once and for all in the trial training. Both are boys of good character who have done well in Morlautern so far. Now we are offering them the chance to prove themselves in the Oberliga. ”

We’ve had one or two situations in the game where we’ve lacked air superiority.

A lot of similarities, but when it comes to footballing characteristics, there are clear differences, possibly very productive for Worms: Joshua Smith (22) is a 1.95 metre tall central defender. “Joshua is tall, has a strong head, is calm on the ball and can be used in a variety of ways defensively,” says coach Kristjan Glibo, who can make good use of the qualities listed: “We have had one or two situations in the game where we lacked air superiority. Just think of the losses in the cup match in Dudenhofen. And in the championship round, we’re more likely to have to defend a lead.”

Brother Justin Smith has completely different advantages: “He is fast, agile and can be used offensively and defensively on both flanks,” says Glibo. The 21-year-old, who is 1.78 metres tall, also played for 1. FC Kaiserslautern in his youth.

Back to the similarities. Both newcomers are looking forward to a “traditional club with great fans”. Joshua promptly exuded determination shortly after signing his contract: “I’m someone for whom the next game is always the most important and I hate losing. If you approach every game with 100 per cent willpower, you often win and then maybe you get promoted in the end.
