Tennis star Murray steps down

After Andy Murray, his brother, the successful doubles player Jamie Murray, is now also retiring. The Brit can look back on a remarkable career.

Two years after his brother Andy, Jamie Murray is also retiring from the big tennis stage.

“My tennis journey is coming to an end after 36 years. I feel very lucky and privileged for all the great experiences this wonderful sport has given me,” the 40-year-old Brit wrote on Instagram, thanking his supporters. “I’m looking forward to entering ‘real life’!”

Murray was a successful doubles player during his career and was at the top of the world rankings for nine weeks from April 4, 2016, with one interruption. He celebrated a total of seven Grand Slam victories in doubles and mixed.

Tennis: Murray only tried singles briefly

Murray only made a brief foray into singles, achieving his highest ranking of 834th in May 2006.

Numerous sporting institutions paid tribute to his retirement announcement. For example, the Lawn Tennis Association wrote: “Every child starts with a dream, not everyone can live it.”

Jamie had played his last match with his brother Andy in 2024. Unlike the doubles specialist, Andy Murray has won three Grand Slam titles in singles.
