Tennis: “Ass kicking” for Team Europe

The world selection rejoices over the victory in the Laver Cup and makes an announcement. Without Novak Djokovic or Alexander Zverev, Team Europe has no chance.

The world selection of captain John McEnroe has won the Laver Cup for the second time in a row. US Open semi-finalist Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe beat Andrej Rublev and Hubert Hurkacz 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5) in doubles in Vancouver on Sunday to secure an emphatic 13-2 win over Team Europe.

“It felt amazing to kick their asses, baby!” cheered McEnroe: “I know they will come back strong, but I prefer two wins in a row. And I’m starting to think it’s possible to win three in a row. “

Without Djokovic and Alcaraz: Europe without a chance

The first four duels of the comparison, which Roger Federer and his agency Team8 had set up, had been won by the European selection. Last year – at the emotional end of Federer’s career – Team World triumphed for the first time.

Team Europe had to do without the really big names this year, so captain Björn Borg’s team did not include Grand Slam record winner Novak Djokovic (Serbia), Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) or Olympic champion Alexander Zverev (Hamburg). The only victory for the Europeans at the three-day event came from French Open finalist Casper Ruud (Norway).
