Tennis ace Zverev in Miami round of 16

Miami – Alexander Zverev has reached the round of 16 at the Masters in Miami. The Olympic tennis champion claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mackenzie McDonald and will now face qualifier Thanasi Kokkinakis of Australia.

Zverev is the number two seed at the hard court tournament, which is worth around 8.6 million US dollars. His best result in Florida was reaching the final three years ago. All other German tennis professionals have been eliminated.

“I’m happy that I’m finding my rhythm a little bit, that the wins are getting easier. It’s going to be tough from now on, but I’m ready,” Zverev said. In his opening match in Miami, he had had much more trouble in his three-set win over Croatian Borna Coric.

For Zverev, the year has not gone according to plan so far. The 24-year-old did lead the German Davis Cup team to an away victory in the qualifying match in Brazil. His otherwise unsuccessful performance was compounded by his suspended ban after hitting the umpire’s chair with his racket at the tournament in Acapulco.
