Berkay ‘BerkayLion’ Demirci has found a new club. Next season he will be wearing the jersey of FC St. Pauli
A few weeks ago Demirci announced his departure from Werder Bremen. Now it is clear for whom he will be chasing virtual goals next season: FC St. Pauli. The 17-year-old already achieved success in his first season: winning the last FGS Qualifier, he fought for participation in the World Cup play-offs – but failed there dramatically and narrowly.
“Berkay is a player who is very ambitious and always wants to succeed. We have been following his path for some time and are absolutely convinced that Berkay will take the next step with us. Like every year, we are ambitious going into the season and want to do as well as possible. Berkay is a great person and we are glad that we could win him over,” commented Christian Oberlies, Coordinator Gaming & eSports at FCSP.
The championship firmly in sight
The FIFA professional, who hails from Wedel, has his sights firmly set on the cup being handed over to Hamburg next year: “In the Virtual Bundesliga (VBL), I want to finally bring the trophy to Hamburg after two runner-up finishes. I also want to help defend our DFB ePokal title. In the singles competitions, I want to build on my performance from last season and qualify for the World Championships this year after the bitter exit in the last round. Nationally, I want to reach the Grand Final in the singles VBL.”
In terms of experience, it should be a give and take next year. “I am the youngest in the team and will try to take something from the experience of my older teammates. At the same time, I want to give my teammates something from my accumulated experience last season in Stockholm and London. I think that I fit in well with the team and that I can bring it forward in terms of play,” Demirci explained.
