Swiatek brings in former Nadal coach

After her first-round exit at the WTA tournament in Miami, Iga Swiatek presents a prominent successor to Wim Fissette. The six-time Grand Slam winner is now working with a former coach of Rafael Nadal.

Six-time Grand Slam winner Iga Swiatek has presented a former coach of tennis legend Rafael Nadal as her new coach. The 24-year-old is now working with Spaniard Francisco Roig, with whom she wants to celebrate success again.

“Welcome to the team, Francisco! I’m looking forward to this new chapter,” she wrote on Instagram. The 58-year-old Roig was part of the coaching team of 22-time Grand Slam winner Nadal from 2002 to 2022.

Tennis: Swiatek parted ways with Fissette

Roig has worked with several professionals in recent months. The Spaniard was only hired by Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard at the beginning of March, after having coached the Brit Emma Raducanu until the beginning of the year.

Swiatek, for her part, parted ways with Wim Fissette on March 23 after her surprising first-round exit at the WTA tournament in Miami. Her 18-month collaboration with the Belgian included her triumph at the grass court classic in Wimbledon.
