Successful intervention: Manchester United snap up left-back Malacia

Instead of Olympique Lyon, now officially Manchester United: The Red Devils have signed Tyrell Malacia (22) as a new left-back.

As had already been widely reported, the 1.69 metre tall Malacia, who joins from Feyenoord Rotterdam, has signed a contract with the English record champions until 2026. There is also an option to extend that contract for a further season.

“It’s an incredible feeling to join Manchester United,” the 22-year-old is quoted as saying in the club’s statement, adding that he had already agreed a deal with Olympique Lyon. But the Red Devils successfully intervened and have a new left-back, who is also looking forward to compatriot Erik ten Hag: “He’s a great coach.”

At Old Trafford, Malacia, who is rumoured to cost around €15 million, will have to compete against Luke Shaw or Alex Telles in his position. What speaks in his favour, according to United sporting director John Murtough: “Tyrell is very dynamic and has plenty of experience at his age.”

Malacia is Manchester United’s first new signing under new coach ten Hag.
