Struff Defeats Son of World Champion

Struff defeats the son of a famous soccer player. Alexander Zverev won’t enter the tournament until the second round.

Wimbledon quarterfinalist Jan-Lennard Struff (Warstein) has knocked out a high-profile opponent at the ATP Masters in Cincinnati. The 36-year-old defeated Roman Andres Burruchaga 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 6-3 in the opening round on Thursday. The Argentine is the son of Jorge Burruchaga, who scored in the 1986 World Cup final against Germany (3-2).

In the second round, Struff will face Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, the No. 22 seed. The top seed is French Open champion Alexander Zverev (Hamburg), who won’t face Britain’s Cameron Norrie until the second round. The highlight of the hard-court season is the U.S. Open (starting August 30).
