Strain in the knee: slight all-clear for Sow

Normally, nothing can stop Eintracht Frankfurt’s perennial runner. All the greater was the concern when Djibril Sow had to be substituted after only half an hour against Freiburg (1:2) due to pain in his knee. On Monday, however, there was at least a slight all-clear.

An MRI examination provided certainty and relief: Sow did not suffer a serious injury. According to a club spokesman, the Swiss international pulled a strain in his knee.

There is even hope that the 25-year-old will be able to play in the second leg against FC Barcelona on Thursday. That would be immensely important for the Hessians, because the midfielder not only impresses with enormous running qualities, but is also predestined to play balls precisely behind the lines thanks to his footballing skills. His quick switching play after winning the ball will also be important on Thursday at Camp Nou.

Should Sow not be fit in time, Sebastian Rode and Kristijan Jakic are likely to be the team on the double six. Tuta, who picked up a silly yellow card in the first leg, will certainly be missing. Almamy Toure is expected to step into the breach for the centre-back.
