“Straight to the airport”: Beyer is ready for the island

Jordan Beyer is leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach until the end of the season. The defender joins Burnley FC on loan

After Jordan Beyer had appeared in 17 Bundesliga games last season, however, the prospect of playing time under Gladbach’s new coach Daniel Farke was no longer so great: In the first four games of the season he remained without an appearance (twice, was not even part of the squad).

Therefore, the central defender started looking for a new club – successfully: Beyer will play for Burnley FC on loan until the end of the season. “Jordan approached us with the wish to make a new start elsewhere this season in order to get playing practice. We wish Jordan every success at Burnley,” Roland Virkus said in a press release.

The player himself is looking forward to the first overseas stop of his career. “As soon as I heard about the interest, I went straight to the airport, I just wanted to come here straight away,” the 22-year-old said in the English second division club’s press release.

At Burnley, the German trains under the guidance of Vincent Kompany. The former Manchester City defender praised the last-minute addition: “He’s a centre-back with speed and quality on the ball, trained at one of the best academies in Europe.”

The defender is expected to help the Clarets achieve direct promotion. The start of the season has already been successful for Kompany’s eleven. With twelve points, Burnley are currently in third place.

So far without a goal of their own

For Beyer, this is his second loan spell. He already appeared in eleven games for Hamburger SV in the second half of the 2019/20 season. The native of Kempen played 33 Bundesliga games for the Foals – without scoring a goal. Perhaps that will now change in the kit of the Clarets
