Starting next season: Kahn takes TV job

Oliver Kahn is returning to the spotlight. Starting next season, the former national goalkeeper will be a regular on a new talk show on the pay-TV channel Sky.

Things had been quiet for Oliver Kahn since he was kicked out of FC Bayern’s management. Now the 56-year-old has a new job in TV. As pay-TV channel Sky announced on Sunday, Kahn will discuss current soccer topics in the new format “Triple – Hagedorn Fußball Talk.” Kahn will be part of the show’s regular cast alongside presenter Riccardo Basile and former BVB goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller, with a different guest planned for each episode.

Initially, 15 episodes are planned for the coming season, which will be broadcast on Sky Sport News on Thursdays at 6 p.m. during Champions League weeks. In addition, the show will also be available to watch via a free livestream on the channel’s website and YouTube channel. However, Kahn will not be seen as an expert commentator on current games, a role he initially took on after his career.

“Football is passion, football is emotion, but it’s also a billion-dollar business,” Kahn is quoted as saying in a Sky statement. “It’s important to me to analyze and contextualize the central issues and current developments in national and international soccer.” Alexander Rösner, editor-in-chief of Sky Sport, spoke of signing not only “one of the greatest personalities in German soccer, but also a sharp analyst with a clear stance and passion for the game and the business of professional soccer.”

Three-time World Goalkeeper of the Year Kahn initially worked as a TV expert for ZDF after his career, and in 2020 he was appointed to the FC Bayern board, where he replaced Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as chairman a year later. In May 2023, the club parted ways with Kahn. Since then, he has had little public presence.
