Noah Dettwiler had to undergo several emergency operations after his serious Moto3 accident in Sepang – the Swiss rider’s condition is stable but remains critical
Noah Dettwiler had to undergo emergency surgery after a serious accident before the Moto3 race at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. The Swiss rider is in intensive care at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur. His family is at his side.
On Monday evening (local time in Malaysia), his French CIP team published an update on Dettwiler’s situation. “Noah has undergone several operations in the past few hours and the procedures have gone well,” it said.
“According to the doctors treating him, his condition is stable but remains critical. We ask for your understanding and that you respect the privacy of Noah and his family. Thank you all for your overwhelming support and numerous messages.”
The statement is signed by the French CIP team, the Dettwiler family, his management, and Tom Lüthi. The former racer has supported Dettwiler’s career in recent years and given him a lot of advice.
A serious rear-end collision occurred during the sighting lap about ten minutes before the Moto3 race. Dettwiler was riding on the left side of the track after turn 3. Jose Antonio Rueda approached from behind at high speed, resulting in a violent collision.
Rueda, the designated world champion in the smallest class, suffered a minor head injury, bruising, and a broken hand. Rueda is scheduled to undergo surgery for his broken hand at the Quiron-Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona in the near future.
Further developments regarding Dettwiler’s health will be communicated in close consultation with his team and the doctors treating him. There is great sympathy in the motorcycle scene, with numerous riders and teams sending the Swiss rider their best wishes for a speedy recovery.
