Spicy mishap: WWE changes show ending

Logan Paul was supposed to surprise John Cena at WWE SmackDown with a knockout blow out of nowhere—but he missed his target by a mile.

It was supposed to be the surprise finale of the show—but it didn’t quite go according to plan.

During the final segment of the WWE show Friday Night SmackDown in Dublin, Ireland, wrestling social media superstar Logan Paul suffered an unfortunate mishap when he was supposed to knock down superstar John Cena. As a result, the show’s production crew had to re-edit the scene.

WWE SmackDown: Logan Paul misses John Cena by a mile

What happened? Paul was supposed to punch his rival John Cena out of nowhere backstage while he was busy talking to General Manager Nick Aldis, who was trying to convey a cryptic message to Cena from his other arch-nemesis, Brock Lesnar.

However, Paul missed the league’s record champion so badly that the illusion was shattered when Cena fell to the ground as if struck by lightning.

The mishap was clearly visible during the international live broadcast on Netflix. WWE reacted and showed the scene from a different camera angle during the later TV broadcast in the US – where the show was aired later due to the time difference – which concealed the missed punch. Attentive fans noticed the discrepancy, however, and a superimposed compilation of the two versions quickly ended up online.

Cena, who will end his wrestling career at the end of the year, will face Paul on August 31 at Clash in Paris. The duel will be Cena’s last match on European soil.
