Johann Zarco remains Honda’s spearhead in MotoGP 2025 despite recent setbacks – teammate Luca Marini reveals what makes the Frenchman so special
Johann Zarco has established himself as the strongest Honda rider in the 2025 MotoGP season. After the summer break, the Frenchman is eighth in the overall standings with 109 points, well ahead of his brand colleagues Luca Marini in 15th (52 points) and Joan Mir in 19th (32 points).
Zarco showed remarkable consistency in the first races of the season, regularly finishing in the top 10, even in difficult conditions such as in rainy Argentina. The highlight of his season so far was his historic victory at the French Grand Prix in Le Mans.
He became the first Frenchman to win his home race in 71 years, while Honda ended a two-year victory drought. In the following race at Silverstone, he continued his strong form with second place, marking the first podium streak for a Honda rider since Marc Marquez in 2021.
The fact that Zarco does not always succeed was made clear in recent races. Since finishing second at Silverstone, the Frenchman has not finished in the top 10 on Sunday.
He himself recently explained that he often lacks stability when braking and the necessary traction when exiting corners. “I sometimes feel like I’m constantly riding at the and of my limits. Even the slightest mistake or a little less grip and the bike reacts unpredictably,” said Zarco.
