“Schumacher” documentary celebrates free-TV premiere on RTL

The Netflix documentary about seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher will celebrate its free-TV debut on RTL after the Brazilian Grand Prix

RTL will show the documentary “Schumacher” following the broadcast of the Brazilian Grand Prix on 13 November at 9.15pm, the free-TV channel announced in a press release on Wednesday. The documentary about the seven-time Formula One world champion was released on 15 September 2021 and was previously only available on Netflix.

The RTL press release says: “As part of a big motorsport evening, RTL will look back on the incomparable career of the racing legend with the free-TV premiere of the documentary ‘Schumacher’ on 13 November, at 9:15pm, following the broadcast of the Brazilian Grand Prix.”

“Thanks to the support of his family and rare interviews, the documentary paints a sensitive yet critical portrait of what many consider the best Formula One driver in history. In doing so, the documentary illuminates the many facets that make up this multi-faceted man and athlete, and also accompanies him through setbacks during his rapid rise,” it continues.

Schumacher manager happy about free-TV premiere on RTL

“In addition to his father and brother Ralf, Schumacher’s wife Corinna, their children Gina and Mick and his closest companions also have their say. They tell the story of a gifted talent, passionate fighter and unconditional team player. Schumacher’ was produced by the Hamburg film production company B 14 FILM GmbH.”

The manager of the Schumacher family, Sabine Kehm, added: “We are delighted that the documentary about Michael is now celebrating its free-TV premiere on RTL – after all, he and RTL have a long, shared history with Formula 1.”

“The documentary tells of Michael’s rise from humble beginnings to become one of the biggest global superstars, whose loyalty, passion and willpower are still an inspiration to many today. As a person, he has always remained true to himself. It is a matter of the heart for his family to tell his story in this film. “

With this team RTL is live on location in Sao Paulo

With the Formula 1 race in Brazil, RTL will also broadcast the last of a total of four races of the 2022 Formula 1 season live on public television. Previously, the races in Imola, Silverstone and Zandvoort were also covered.

For the Grand Prix in Sao Paulo, presenter Florian König, commentators Heiko Wasser and Christian Danner as well as pit reporter Kai Ebel will be live on site. In addition, expert Ralf Schumacher will once again be joining the Sky team.

Since last season, the TV channel has no longer shown all the races of the premier class. With the extension of the exclusive deal for pay-TV broadcaster Sky up to and including 2027, this will not change any time soon.
