Since Friday, Turkey also has a new schedule for the 2025/26 season. This means that Leroy Sané’s SüperLig adventure is likely to start in Gaziantep.
The Turkish SüperLig has a new superstar in German international Leroy Sané. The hype surrounding the 29-year-old is huge – and may well be unleashed for the first time in Gaziantep. On Friday, it was confirmed that champions Galatasaray will start the new season in mid-August against last year’s 14th-placed team.
Runners-up Fenerbahce will host Alanyaspor to kick off the season, Thomas Reis’ surprise third-placed Samsunspor will host newly promoted Genclerbirligi Ankara, and Besiktas, with their new striker Tammy Abraham, will travel to Kayseri.
Things could get tense for Sané for the first time in early October, when the first city derby against Besiktas is scheduled for the fifth matchday. The clash with Fenerbahce awaits at the end of November. Galatasaray will then want to set the course for another title defense.
Just one week later, Galatasaray will host the team led by former Schalke coach Reis. The return match against Fenerbahce is scheduled for the end of April on the 31st and fourth-last matchday.
Excitement is also building at Kocaelispor, who will play their first first division match in 16 years at Konyaspor on the first matchday.
Is the excitement returning?
Last season, there was no way around Cimbom: Galatasaray finished the national championship eleven points ahead of “rival” Fenerbahce. Samsunspor trailed behind with 31 points, Besiktas even 33.
To bring more excitement back to the Turkish league, Besiktas and Fenerbahce are already investing heavily in their squads this summer. However, Sané is said to be just the beginning for Galatasaray. Among others, rumors persist that Hakan Calhanoglu will be leaving Champions League finalist Inter Milan.
