Sale of Mangala to Lyon could bring VfB two million euros

VfB Stuttgart could be in for a welcome windfall. A possible permanent transfer of its ex-player Orel Mangala from Nottingham Forest to Olympique Lyon would ideally bring VfB an additional payment of almost two million euros

The Swabians’ coffers haven’t just been tight since yesterday. Accordingly, they have to budget consistently in all areas, especially in transfer matters. Now the traditional club from the Neckar may be able to look forward to a handsome sum in the millions. The sale of Orel Mangala from Nottingham Forest to Olympique Lyon could, in an ideal scenario, flush almost two million euros into VfB’s coffers.

For a loan fee of ten million pounds (the equivalent of around 11.7 million euros), Mangala will move to Lyon on loan until the end of the season. The French club then have an option to buy the midfielder, who would then cost 15 million pounds (around 17.5 million euros), to which three million pounds in bonuses could be added. Should this eventuality of a permanent signing occur, the Swabians can look forward to two million euros.

The Belgian, who wore the VfB shirt in the 2017/2018 season and between summer 2019 and summer 2022, will end his spell in the Premier League and move to France. As a former Champions League regular and multiple champion and cup winner in France, Olympique has its best days behind it. This season, they are fighting against the threat of relegation in Ligue 1 in sixteenth place in the third-largest city in the Republic. Mangala should help prevent the club from being relegated from the top flight

The international, who played 109 competitive matches in the Bundesliga and DFB Cup for the Swabians, moved to Nottingham in July 2022. For a basic transfer fee of around 13 million euros and additional bonus payments of around four million euros. And a 14 percent sell-on fee included in the contracts. After 47 Premier League appearances, Mangala is leaving the island on loan for the time being.

A permanent transfer of Mangala to Lyon in the summer would be lucrative for Stuttgart. This is because Stuttgart would receive 14 percent of the amount exceeding the transfer fee to VfB. this would amount to around two million euros, which the long-established club could make good use of.
