Rupprecht world champion at atomweight

Professional boxer Tina Rupprecht is back on the world championship throne

Professional boxer Tina Rupprecht is back on the world championship throne. The 31-year-old from Augsburg defeated Czech Fabiana Bytyqi on points in Berlin on Saturday and was crowned WBC World Champion in the atomweight division. Rupprecht had lost her minimumweight world title last March to the US American Seniesa Estrada and then moved down to the lowest weight class up to 46.3 kilograms.

“I’m now world champion in two weight classes, I’m so proud. Our game plan worked out perfectly, determined forward movement, compensating for size disadvantages with well-dosed pressure and targeted strikes to win round after round,” said Rupprecht after the ten-round fight. It was her 13th victory in her 15th professional fight.

The 1.53-metre-tall Rupprecht, who teaches sport part-time at a secondary school in Zusmarshausen near Augsburg, has been a professional since 2013 and held the WBC minimumweight title from 2018 until her defeat to Estrada.
