Marco Reus was man of the match in his Los Angeles Galaxy side’s crucial 3–2 victory in the tight play-off race. Thomas Müller also made his mark once again and leads the table with the Whitecaps.

Thomas Müller has guided league leaders Vancouver Whitecaps to another victory in the MLS. The Canadians defeated Real Salt Lake 3–0, thereby consolidating their top spot in the Western Conference. They currently have a five-point lead over closest rivals Houston, and the Whitecaps also have a game in hand. Müller made it 2–0 in the 29th minute with his eighth goal of the season; following an assist from Yadaly Diaby, the veteran slotted the ball perfectly into the left-hand corner of the net.

Meanwhile, his former international team-mate Marco Reus was also the match-winner for Los Angeles Galaxy. Coming on as a substitute, the 37-year-old led L.A. to a 3–2 victory at Minnesota United, securing a crucial win in the tight Western Conference play-off race. Reus did not come on until the 59th minute, but then provided the assist for Joao Klauss’s equaliser (76’) with a free-kick – and even scored the winner (80’) with a first-time left-footed finish from a cross. It was his seventh goal of the season. At half-time, Minnesota had been leading 2–1.

Timo Werner, on the other hand, made only a brief appearance for the San José Earthquakes. After the former Leipzig player came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute, his team managed to come back from 0–2 down to draw 2–2 against Los Angeles FC. The Earthquakes are also on course for the play-offs.
