Reus’ late goal not enough for bottom side Galaxy – Miami lose 3-4 without Messi

The last four games of the 10th matchday in the MLS provided plenty of goals. Right in the thick of it: Cedric Teuchert and Marco Reus. However, the latter was unable to prevent the champions from remaining bottom of the table.

Ten games, zero wins: MLS champions Los Angeles Galaxy’s tough season just can’t seem to get started. In Sunday’s 2-4 defeat to Portland Timbers, Marco Reus came off the bench with his team trailing 0-2 after picking up an injury. He set up Ramirez for the 1-3 (67th minute) and scored the 2-3 himself shortly afterwards (69th minute). In the end, however, Galaxy lost 2-4 and remain bottom of the Western Conference.

Without Lionel Messi, Inter Miami suffered their first defeat of the season. A 3-1 lead was not enough in a 3-4 defeat to FC Dallas. With the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup semi-final coming up on Wednesday, Messi was rested, as were Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

Teuchert beats Lloris

Inter coach Javier Mascherano took responsibility for the defeat in light of the changes. “I told the players that they don’t need to feel bad. There were a lot of players who hadn’t played many minutes this season. It’s not easy to come in,” he said. With 18 points from nine games, Miami is fifth in the Eastern Conference, which is led by FC Cincinnati (22 points).

Their opponents in the Champions Cup will be the Vancouver Whitecaps, who coped better with their double burden and won 3-1 at Minnesota United. In the fourth game of the day, nine players with a past in Germany were in the starting line-ups. Cedric Teuchert scored the 1-0 lead for St. Louis City SC at Los Angeles FC from a pass by Jannes Horn, beating Hugo Lloris.

In the end, however, the Missouri club could only manage a 2-2 draw after Denis Bouanga scored his second goal of the game in the fifth minute of stoppage time, this time from a pass by Cengiz Ünder. Berlin-born Alfredo Morales had been shown a yellow card in the 83rd minute.
