Reading Searching for First Points Against Newly-Promoted Blackburn Rovers

Other than QPR, who lost for the fourth time this season yesterday against a Bristol City side which hadn’t beaten them at Loftus Road in 41 years, Reading is the only Championship team without a point thus far. Their search for points continues at Ewood Park against Blackburn Rovers. The Wednesday night fixture starts at 20:45 CET.

Reading manager Paul Clement knows his team is up against it.

“What a hard game. Everyone has to be absolutely up for it – especially mentally,”

“It’s always a difficult place to go to play. I know what the atmosphere can be like there and they’re buoyant after coming back up into the division.”

Blackburn earned promotion through finishing second in League One, a year after they dropped out of the Championship. The Lancashire outfit is off to a solid start, drawing two and winning one of the three matches they’ve played. Midfielder Bradley Dack has been a revelation, scoring twice in the league and adding two more in a Carabao Cup 5-1 win over Carlisle. However, he sustained a foot injury on Saturday and faces a late fitness test.

On the other side, Clement’s quest for points will be boosted by the potential returns of forwards Sone Aluko and Mo Barrow, as well as the arrival of highly-rated Southampton youngster Josh Sims. The winger signed off on a season-long loan and might even be available today.

Blackburn is on a 21-game unbeaten run at home, while Reading is winless in their last nine Championship away games, having failed to even score in the last five. Those are all positive omens for the home side heading into tonight’s contest.

Blackburn – 1.72 (8/11)

Draw – 3.75 (11/4)

Reading – 5.5 (9/2)

Reading did taste victory a week ago by defeating Birmingham 2-0 in the Carabao Cup. Combine that with the fact Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray has never beaten Reading as a manager (D1, L4) (The Royals won both encounters last season) and you can see there’s actually something going in Reading’s favour. For those who think it’s enough to go on, a 2.15 (23/20) double chance on Draw or Reading win is a viable option.
