Rally Mexico returns to the WRC calendar in 2023

After a two-year break, the World Rally Championship will once again stage a round in Mexico in the 2023 season

The Rally Mexico will return to the World Rally Championship (WRC) calendar in 2023. The event’s organisers made the announcement on Monday (11 July). The date on which the gravel event will be held and the duration of the new contract with the WRC have not yet been announced.

The WRC last raced in Mexico in 2020. At the time, the rally was the last event to be held before the several-month break in motorsport as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At that time, the rally had been abandoned after Saturday so that all participants could make their way home before border closures and flight cancellations. So far, the last winner of the Rally Mexico in the WRC was Sebastien Ogier (Toyota).

Since then, the WRC has held all its rounds in Europe with the exception of the Safari Rally in Kenya. In addition to Mexico, Rally Argentina has not been part of the WRC calendar this season or last season.

Even though the date of the 2023 Rally Mexico has not yet been fixed, it is considered likely that the traditional date at the beginning of March will be chosen again. It will again be held in the state of Guanajuato, whose government financially supports the event.

The return of the Rally Mexico as well as the entire WRC calendar for 2023 still have to be officially confirmed by the World Motor Sport Council of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).
