Qualifier Jastremska in the quarter-finals in Melbourne

Dajana Jastremska has fought her way from qualifying to the quarter-finals at the Australian Open – and will now face a young Czech

Ukrainian qualifier Dajana Jastremska continues to cause a sensation at the Australian Open and has reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time. The 23-year-old defeated two-time tournament winner Viktoria Azarenka from Belarus 7:6 (8:6), 6:4 in Melbourne on Monday and celebrated the biggest success of her career.

After just over two hours of play, the 93rd-ranked player in the world used her first match point to win. “I think my heart is jumping out of my chest. I’m a fighter, that’s why I won this match,” said Jastremska.

In the last eight, Jastremska will play Czech Linda Noskova, who is only 19 years old and sensationally knocked out world number one Iga Swiatek in the third round. On Monday, Noskova benefited from the withdrawal of her Ukrainian opponent Elina Svitolina due to injury when she was 3-0 up in the first set
