The German team has something to celebrate at the World Championships.
Daniel-Rafael Goral won the only medal for the German Disabled Sports Association (DBS) at the Para Judo World Championships in Astana. The 25-year-old won bronze in the J2 class under 95 kilograms, securing his first international medal of his career. The visually impaired judoka from SSG Blista Marburg won the bronze medal match by ippon, having failed to finish higher than seventh at the Olympic Games in Paris.
Isabell Thal narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth in the J2 class up to 52 kilograms. Multiple Paralympic medalist Ramona Brussig finished ninth, as did 17-year-old debutant Samuel van Melle. Lennart Sass had to withdraw from the World Championships due to a cruciate ligament rupture after winning bronze in Paris.
