Out of nowhere: Bucks fire Griffin – Rivers already in the starting blocks?

Bang on Tuesday night: Only on the Milwaukee Bucks’ sideline since the beginning of the season, head coach Adrian Griffin is already out after just eight months in office. Assistant Joe Prunty is taking over on an interim basis, and one candidate is hotly tipped.

The Milwaukee Bucks had actually got back on track after a bumpy start to the season. The team led by superstar duo Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard has 30 wins and 13 defeats. This puts the Bucks in second place in the Eastern Conference behind the Boston Celtics.

Doc Rivers as possible successor?

The defence in particular, which was viewed critically by many after the Lillard trade, had stabilized recently. So it is still unclear why the franchise decided on the sudden separation. Attributing Griffin’s departure to purely sporting reasons seems unlikely.

Assistant coach Joe Prunty is expected to take over for Griffin on a temporary basis. According to Shams Sharania of “The Athletic”, Doc Rivers is being considered as his successor. Rivers, who once led the Philadelphia 76ers to the Eastern Conference finals three times in a row, currently works as an analyst and commentator for ESPN. According to ESPN, the Bucks have already contacted Rivers.
