Japan’s Naomi Osaka brings successful Polish coach Tomasz Wiktorowski onto her team – but only for one tournament for now.
Four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka has found a new coach for the time being after parting ways with Patrick Mouratoglou.
The former world number one will be coached by Tomasz Wiktorowski at the ongoing WTA tournament in Montreal, with the collaboration initially set to last until the end of the Canadian 1000 event. Wiktorowski had been coaching his Polish compatriot Iga Swiatek until October 2024.
Osaka announced her split from Mouratoglou on Monday before her 6-4, 6-2 opening victory over Canadian qualifier Ariana Arseneault at the Canadian Open in Montreal. The Japanese player, who is currently ranked 49th in the world, had worked with Serena Williams’ former coach for less than a year.
Wiktorowski has been without a coaching job since last October. The 44-year-old won four of Swiatek’s six Grand Slam titles and was at the top of the rankings for a long time. Wiktorowski was previously coach of Polish player Agnieszka Radwanska from 2011 to 2018.
