One day after comeback: Thiem Corona-positive

Marbella – One day after his comeback, tennis pro Dominic Thiem has tested positive for the Corona virus.

“Looks like the good news hasn’t lasted long lately …. Last night after dinner I felt unwell and did not have a good night. After developing mild symptoms, I decided to take a test this morning which came back positive for COVID-19,” the Austrian wrote on Instagram.

The 28-year-old lost his first match after a month-long injury layoff at the Challenger tournament in Marbella the day before, losing 3-6, 4-6 to Argentina’s Pedro Cachin in the first round. The 2020 US Open champion had not played a tennis match since June 2021 due to hand surgery. Recently, he had to postpone his return several times because he did not yet feel completely fit. “Now I have to wait and see how it develops,” Thiem wrote further. It is therefore unclear whether Thiem will be able to participate in the ATP tournament in Marrakech next week as planned.
