LeBron James is approaching the end of his career, but he doesn’t want to call it quits just yet. On the podcast “360 With Speedy,” the Lakers star spoke about his future and made his feelings clear.
LeBron James is about to start his 23rd NBA season and knows that his time on the court is limited. On the podcast “360 With Speedy,” the 40-year-old made it clear that he is approaching the end of his career, but is not quite there yet. “I’m definitely on the home stretch. Retirement is coming, it’s coming, just not yet,” James said. He emphasised that he will not play for another ten years, but is still ready to compete at the highest level.
After exercising his player option for 2025/26, James will enter the final season of his two-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. The $104 million deal includes a no-trade clause. ESPN insider Brian Windhorst recently speculated that this could be “perhaps the last year.” But James himself is leaving the door open for a continuation.
A string of records
Even at 40, the four-time champion continues to rack up records. Last season:
Tied Vince Carter for most NBA seasons (22). Surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in career minutes. Oldest player with consecutive triple-doubles. Most 30-point games of all time (ahead of Michael Jordan). Oldest 40-point scorer and 50,000 combined career points.
