The German national basketball team has begun preparations for the Super Cup and the World Cup qualifiers. Andreas Obst is currently out, and his availability for the upcoming games remains unclear.
As the DBB reported in its newsletter, the reigning world and European champions began training on Monday in Hamburg for the upcoming Super Cup and World Cup qualifiers. However, only 14 of the 15 nominated players were present at the Veolia Towers Hamburg training center.
Andreas Obst is currently still in Munich; the shooting specialist is suffering from back pain and is therefore undergoing further treatment in the Bavarian capital. According to the DBB, it is unclear whether the 30-year-old will join the team in the coming days.
Center Ariel Hukporti of the Philadelphia 76ers had also been initially announced. The 24-year-old will have to wait a little longer for his debut on the senior national team; the big man is sidelined due to a hand injury. Nevertheless, the former Ludwigsburg player is expected in Hamburg on Tuesday and will watch the games as a spectator over the weekend.
DBB Team: Four Games in Nine Days
On Friday and Saturday, Germany will once again host the traditional Supercup, which this time features Croatia, Turkey, and the Czech Republic in addition to Germany. Alex Mumbru’s team will first face the Czech Republic (Friday, 8 p.m.), followed by the third-place game and the final the next day.
In addition, two World Cup qualifying games await the DBB team the following week. Germany will host the Netherlands in Cologne before facing the still-undefeated Polish team in Gdańsk on August 30.
