FC Barcelona’s long-awaited return to Camp Nou has been postponed again. A new date has not yet been set.
Just a few weeks ago, FC Barcelona announced the date for its long-awaited return to Camp Nou. The inauguration of the partially renovated stadium was scheduled to take place on August 10 as part of the Joan Gamper Trophy. Was scheduled. Because, as the club announced in a press release on Friday, it will not happen again.
The Catalans cited “municipal requirements” as the reason for the postponement. “Despite the club’s intention to open the stadium in stages,” it had “not been possible to meet the necessary conditions.”
Not the first postponement
It has now been over two years since the last game at Camp Nou, with the Blaugrana playing their home games at the Olimpic Lluis Companys since then. A return to the old new venue had been repeatedly postponed due to various factors. The inauguration was originally scheduled for November 2024 to coincide with the club’s 125th anniversary. However, this was then postponed to the end of January, then to April, before finally being set for May.
The fact is that no date has been set so far. So when the team will finally return to Camp Nou remains to be seen. What is certain, however, is that the Joan Gamper Trophy will have to be held at the alternative stadium again this year.
This is a friendly match that Barcelona plays every year in honor of its founder Joan Gamper shortly before the start of the season.
