Isaac Bonga will most likely not return to the NBA. The national player, who plays for Partizan Belgrade, had an exit clause in his contract. This clause has now expired.
This was reported by Mozzart Sport. According to the report, Bonga could have left the Serbs for the NBA in exchange for a compensation payment of €300,000. Several NBA teams are said to have inquired about the DBB player in recent weeks. However, no offer was received, which means that Bonga will most likely continue to play for Partizan in the coming season.
The forward recently accepted a new offer from the Serbs with a term until 2027. Previously, EuroLeague returnee Valencia was said to have been particularly interested in the services of the 25-year-old. Carlik Jones, Duane Washington Jr., and Frank Ntilikina also had clauses similar to Bonga’s, but none of them made use of them.
Bonga impresses in Serbia
Bonga moved to Serbia from FC Bayern in 2024 and had a good debut season for Partizan. The forward played a total of 63 games, averaging 7.4 points and 4.5 rebounds with a three-point field goal percentage of 39.3 percent. In addition, Bonga was named the ABA League’s best defender.
Partizan won the league but missed out on its actual goal of reaching the EuroLeague playoffs. With a record of 16-18, head coach Zeljko Obradovic’s team only managed to finish in twelfth place.
