Nintendo shake-up: Will EA SPORTS FC 26 become more expensive?

Nintendo is raising the prices of games for the upcoming Switch 2 – will other major publishers follow suit? EA’s executive board has responded to concerns from the gaming community.

Mario Kart World will cost €90 in this country, while Donkey Kong Bananza will set you back €80: Nintendo is using the hype surrounding the announced Switch 2 to raise game prices. Shortly after the announcement, fears were raised that other publishers could follow suit.

Electronic Arts (EA) reassured fans of FC, Madden & Co. a little in its latest quarterly report. “Our business works very differently than it did ten years ago,” said CEO Andrew Wilson when asked about possible price adjustments in response to market developments.

“Ten years ago, it was all about selling shiny CDs and plastic boxes on retail shelves. That’s still part of our business – but a much smaller part,“ the CEO continued. In terms of pricing, EA has ‘everything from free-to-play to deluxe editions’ in its portfolio.

”No changes to current strategy”

According to Wilson, the path to economic strength and resilience lies in “integrating quality and value.” Whether for one, ten, or 100 euros.

Apart from the fact that “quality and value” are the hallmarks of any work, Wilson sounds as if he wants to keep open the option of raising prices for such high-quality products.

However, Stuart Canfield, the man responsible for the figures, then stepped in: “In line with our forecasts, we have not made any changes to the current strategy at this stage,” said the CFO, presumably referring to the 2026 fiscal year.

This at least fuels hopes for EA SPORTS FC 26 or Madden NFL 26 that prices will remain the same. Against the backdrop of the paid Premium Pass just introduced in FUT, an increase for the next release would also be questionable.
