Nigeria World Cup kit: How do I buy the shirt online, how much does it cost and can I only get it from Nike?

Judging by how fast the Nigeria kit sold out, I think it’s safe to say Nigerians love their national team.

This is how it looks like:

Obviously, the fans like the 1994 World Cup homage. Otherwise, three million pre-orders wouldn’t have been snatched away in 15 minutes. There were a couple of other reasons for the ridiculously quick sale. One of them is Nigeria’s 4-2 win over Argentina in a friendly back in November that has got its fans’ hopes up. The second one is that Nike decided to wait with the release of the jerseys for sale due to the danger of counterfeiters creating replicas and selling them for the price of the original, which by the way, is €75. The waiting line was getting longer and longer as time went by. As we can see, the queue reached at least three million people.

The colourful retro kit certainly is eye-catching. Nike has stated that the feathered pattern on the jerseys has been inspired by the Super Eagles, the first Nigerian team to have played in a World Cup final in 1994. All Nike online stores are out of stock and, as of now, there’s no intention to re-stock. As a consequence, the demand for non-official copies in Nigeria’s capital Lagos has been huge. The national team faced England on Saturday at Wembley. Although it lost 2-1, the players showed they are capable of locking horns with a European superpower. Despite being in a World Cup 2018 group with Argentina, Croatia and Iceland, Nigeria is full of confidence at the moment and will fancy its chances to progress to the knockout round. There, anything’s possible.

When it goes back on sale you will be able to find it here.
