Next finger pointing: ‘Anders’ beats ‘Umut’ in showmatch

After his remarkable interview, Anders ‘Anders’ Vejrgang has won against RB teammate ‘Umut’ in the Main Event of the FIFA 22 Global Series (FGS)

For the first time, the words that much of the community must have been expecting had crossed his lips publicly. “I am currently the best FIFA player in the world,” claimed ‘Anders’ in the latest FIFA TV interview. A real challenge from the Leipzig pro to the eSports elite.

The Dane had celebrated his 16th birthday at the end of January and is thus eligible to play in official EA tournaments. The second FGS Qualifier last weekend came too early for the top talent, but the organiser still didn’t want to let the opportunity to put ‘Anders’ in the limelight pass by.

‘Anders’ shows first signs of action

In the run-up to FGS competitions, FIFA 22 always hosts a Main Event. A show match between two greats of the scene, which is supposed to get in the mood for the tournament. This time in the duel: ‘Anders’ against his RB teammate Umut ‘Umut’ Gültekin, who should dominate the subsequent qualifier for long stretches.

Although the match was merely a friendly, Vejrgang was able to back up his pithy words with action for the first time. And the Danish new international demonstrated why his recent statements are by no means delusions of grandeur, but could well be based in reality.

‘Umut’ only equal after the break

‘Anders’ dominated the first half and could have taken the lead after just seven minutes if they had been more consistent with their chances. But even without the dream start, the youngster continued to dominate proceedings and combined through the middle to make it a deserved 1-0 after 20 minutes.

Umut’ did not see any ground offensively in the first half, but came out of the break much improved: In the second half, the game was more open, and Gültekin was finally able to make offensive pinpricks. Nevertheless, ‘Anders’ remained more dangerous at first, and at the start of the final phase he increased the lead to 2:0.

A McGeady cancle in tight space showed all the class of the shooting star and initiated his second goal. However, ‘Umut’ showed his mentality afterwards: His first real chance was parried by Vejrg’s keeper, five minutes before the end he reduced the score to 1:2 with a header.

Vejrgang continues to inspire anticipation

But on balance, the narrow win for ‘Anders’ was fine, the Dane looking sorted and confident both offensively and defensively. In view of the strong performance of ‘Umut’ at the second FGS Qualifier, the entire community can be curious to see how Vejrgang will soon perform.
