Next cancellation for mega-fight?

The long-awaited mega-fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk had to be canceled in February. Will the rescheduled date in May now also fall through?

Is the boxing match of the year between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk about to be canceled again? As Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk explained in an interview with World Boxing News, he could imagine that the rescheduled date on May 18 could also fall through. Krassyuk expressed the suspicion that Fury could cancel, as he did in February.

“I have no guarantee that the fight will even take place. The man has already canceled four times in a row. We’ve even decided to stop all jokes and criticism towards Luke to boost his confidence,” said Krassyuk.

Deep cut prevented the event from taking place in February

The mega-fight for the undisputed heavyweight crown was originally scheduled to take place on February 17 in Saudi Arabia. However, because Fury suffered a deep cut to his right eyebrow during sparring, the event had to be postponed.

Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas subsequently accused Fury of chickening out before the fight. “Tyson Fury is a fucking coward who will do anything to avoid facing Usyk,” he insulted the Brit in Ring Magazine.

After Fury’s cancellation, the parties quickly agreed on a rescheduled date. The mega-fight is now scheduled to take place on May 18 in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh. The fight is about nothing less than all the recognized world championship belts. Fury is the WBC world champion, while Usyk holds the WBA, WBO and IBF titles
