Antonio Conte continues to work hard on the team that is set to defend Napoli’s Scudetto title in the coming season. Noa Lang has now also decided to join SSC.
SSC Napoli will start the new Serie A season with an away game against newly promoted Sassuolo Calcio – and as defending champions. Head coach Antonio Conte’s team surprisingly finished ahead of Inter Milan last season. And the southern Italians are clearly not interested in relinquishing their position in Italy.
After the nine million euro transfer of talented center back Luca Marianucci (FC Empoli) and the free transfer coup with Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), the Italian champions have now dug deep into their coffers for the first time this summer: According to consistent reports in the Italian media, €25 million will be paid for Dutch international Noa Lang, who also won the national championship with PSV in the final stretch. This sum could even rise to €30 million with bonuses.
There had already been persistent rumors of a transfer for the 26-year-old, who still had a contract until summer 2028, in previous transfer windows. However, only Conte and Napoli were able to convince Lang, who has repeatedly struggled with injuries, to join a new project. The transfer was officially announced on Thursday.
Transfer fee doubled twice
Lang, who now has 14 caps (three goals) for his country, came through the youth ranks at Ajax Amsterdam. After loan spells at Twente Enschede and Club Brugge, the attacking winger left Amsterdam for good in the summer of 2021, with Brugge paying the Dutch record champions €6 million.
Two years later, the transfer fee was doubled, with PSV Eindhoven bringing the 5’7″ Lang back to the Eredivisie for €12.5 million. The plan is to sell him again in the summer of 2025 for double that amount.
