Nadal hasn’t touched a tennis racket

During his farewell at the French Open, clay court king Nadal admits that he hasn’t played tennis for months.

If you’re going to quit, quit right: former clay court king Rafael Nadal hasn’t touched a tennis racket since retiring in November 2024. The 38-year-old Spaniard revealed this after his official farewell on the opening day of the French Open.

Although he still looks fit and slim, “that’s not due to any tennis training,” said the 14-time Paris champion, “I haven’t picked up a racket since I retired. So I haven’t been on court for six months. But I’ll be back at some point.”

Nadal wants to play again at some point

Not as a professional, of course, “but I would like to play again somehow,” said Nadal, “but that will take time. You can’t just go out and play some exhibition match.”

Nadal does not yet know what he wants to do with his life as a retired tennis player. Of course, he has his foundations and other social projects to take care of. “But I’m looking for something that really motivates me, my next goal,” Nadal said: “It’s very important for me to have goals in life.”
