Nadal at the Laver Cup in Berlin

Tennis superstar Nadal is coming to Berlin. The Spaniard will be at the Laver Cup. Will it be his farewell performance? There is a famous role model

On his farewell tour, tennis superstar Rafael Nadal is making one last stop in Berlin. The 37-year-old Spaniard is part of Team Europe at the Laver Cup, as the organizers announced.

Nadal completes the team coached by Björn Borg, which already includes his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz, Olympic champion Alexander Zverev and Russia’s Daniil Medvedev. The event, which pits Team Europe against Team World, will take place from September 20-22 in Berlin’s Uber Arena.

It is very likely to be Nadal’s last year on the tour. The 22-time Grand Slam champion had already announced last year that his career would come to an end in 2024. The Spaniard has been repeatedly set back by injuries. It was only last week that the former world number one made his comeback in Barcelona after months of injury.

The Laver Cup in Berlin could be an appropriate stage for Nadal’s last appearance. His long-time rival and friend Roger Federer had already used the show event for his retirement. Federer played a doubles match alongside Nadal in London in 2022. Afterwards, the two superstars sat crying next to each other on the players’ bench and watched the farewell ceremony for Federer together.

“I’m delighted to be able to compete for Team Europe at the Laver Cup in Berlin,” said Nadal. “I’ve made some very special memories at the Laver Cup, including the very emotional farewell match Roger played with me. “
