Murray parts ways with legend

British tennis star Andy Murray is once again breaking new ground as a coach. He is sacking a legend – and not for the first time

Tennis star Andy Murray has parted ways with his coach Ivan Lendl – for the third time. The two had been working together again since March 2022, but Murray was unable to build on past performances, especially at major tournaments.

“Ivan has stood by me in the most important moments of my career and I can’t thank him enough for everything he’s given me,” said Murray. In his two previous engagements, the now 36-year-old won the title at Wimbledon twice (2013, 2016) and once at the US Open (2012), as well as two gold medals at the Olympic Games (2012, 2016).

In addition to the lack of success, Lendl’s frequent travel is also said to have been a problem. The eight-time Grand Slam winner said of his separation from Murray: “I will look back on that time with great memories […]. He works as hard as anyone and the sport has gotten better because of him. I wish him nothing but the best for the years ahead.”

Murray is currently ranked 42nd in the ATP world rankings and will play for the British Davis Cup team in the round of 16 against Serbia on November 25. He will now be coached by Mark Hilton and Jonny O’Mara
