Monument to Valentino Rossi: The world’s biggest helmet as a tribute

The region where Valentino Rossi was born is honouring the Italian with a special monument: an oversized helmet is to be inaugurated on 25 July

Just recently, Valentino Rossi was formally honoured at his home Grand Prix in Mugello when his race number 46 was retired in an official ceremony. Now the next honour is in the offing for the Italian.

The municipality of Pesaro, birthplace of “Il Dottore”, has built a monument to him. A giant helmet – the largest in the world at four metres high and six metres wide – has been erected as a tribute to the MotoGP star. The installation is located in the Piazza d’Annunzio, framed by a mini-bike track.

It is to be inaugurated by Rossi himself on 25 July. “It is a duty for the land of pilots and engines to honour a legend like Valentino,” explains Mayor Matteo Ricci. “The installation of a work dedicated to him on the seafront is certainly a strong tourist attraction. “

The project “A Legendary Helmet” was created and conceived by the events coordinator of the Municipality of Pesaro Massimiliano Santini. It was designed by Riccardo Sivelli. It combines different materials, including wood, iron and resin.

The fact that a helmet was chosen for the monument is no coincidence. Rossi’s extraordinary designs have been one of his greatest trademarks throughout his career.
